Most people take pride in owning a reliable, attractive car; but meanwhile, some of them have trouble in caring cars. The key to keeping a vehicle dependable and aesthetically pleasing is a normal maintenance regimen. Regular maintenance and simple service can greatly reduce the cost of car ownership.

The car wash is obviously an important part of the car care. Dirty cars are without a doubt unsightly and the key to a successful car washing is working from top to bottom and one side at a time. When washing your cars, you should close all doors and windows. Hose any excess dirt off the car, beginning at the roof and working down to the tires. Soap dries fast. Wash one side at a time to keep the soap from drying on your car's paint. Wet and wring out your chamois leather before you dry; it will absorb water better.

You should keep the windshield clean. Dirty glass deflects the light and can make visibility dangerous at best, impossible at worst. Many washing products are available in the market, and it's always advisable to wipe the product off with a paper towel that doesn't leave lint or streaks. Consider cleaning your windshield every morning, or at least use your automatic windshield washers before departing. In winter months, pay attention to the freezing point of the washer fluid.

Keep a close eye on your engine's air filter. When the engine air filter clogs with dirt, dust and bugs, it causes your engine to work harder and your car becomes less fuel-efficient. Replacing a clogged air filter could improve your gas mileage by as much as 10 percent and save you 15 cents a gallon. It's a good idea to have your engine air filter checked at each oil change.

Clear it out and make room for your car. Parking in your garage will help your car stay warm in winter and cool in summer, and you won't have to depend as much on your gas-guzzling air-conditioning or defroster when you drive.

Be serious about auto care. Your car's performance depends on it. Always follow the manufacturer-recommended maintenance. The car's designed to run a certain way. If you neglect it, it won't be as efficient.
